Stair Flooring in Superior, WI

Stairs that finish like the floor they lead to.

Stair flooring in Superior, WI, in carpet, LVP, hardwood or tile, with the nosing and transitions done to match. We install stairs as their own job or as part of a whole floor, measured for free.

Stairs Are Where a Floor Shows Its Work

A staircase is a run of short floors, each with an edge you step on. Every cut and every seam is at eye level when you come down, and a loose tread or a lifting nose is a trip hazard.

That’s why the stairs are planned with the floors around them. The material, the color and the nosing should look like one floor that happens to change level. Where the stairs meet the landing or the room below, the transition should be flat and tight.

Choosing a Stair Material

Carpet
Quiet, soft and less slippery. The most common choice, and the easiest to match to carpeted bedrooms upstairs.

What we use
Solid and engineered hardwood
Tile
For short runs where water and grit come in, such as a step down into an entry or a sunroom.

Carpet

Stair Carpet

Carpet is the most common stair floor. It’s quieter than a hard floor, softer if someone slips, and it matches carpeted bedrooms and halls upstairs.

Pick it in the showroom from carpet we keep in stock or from samples we order in. See more on our carpet page.

Hard Floors

LVP and Hardwood Stairs

If the floors above or below are luxury vinyl plank or hardwood, the stairs can match. Each step gets a tread and a stair nose made for that floor, so the edge is finished and solid.

Older stairs often need work before the new floor goes on: squeaks, uneven treads, or old carpet tack strips and staples. We look at that during the measure. Compare the materials on our luxury vinyl and hardwood pages.

Installation

Stairs as Part of the Whole Job

Most stair work happens with a bigger floor project. When we install, we can move furniture, take out and haul away the old floor, prepare what’s underneath, and reinstall your baseboards. The stairs and every transition between rooms are part of the same job.

We install stairs in Superior, Duluth, Hermantown and Cloquet. Redoing the basement stairs too? See basement flooring. Call (715) 394-3637 or schedule a free measure.

Yes. We install stairs in Duluth, Hermantown, Cloquet and across the area, as well as in Superior.

Stairs are the hardest part of most floors to do well, because every cut shows and a loose tread is a trip hazard. About half our customers install their own floors. Stairs are the part most worth handing to an installer.
